As quantum computers advance toward practical viability, they pose a serious threat to the cryptographic foundations such as ECDSA and RSA, that secure most current blockchain systems. In the post-quantum era, blockchain networks must transition to quantum-resistant cryptographic algorithms (e.g., lattice-based, hash-based, or code-based schemes) to protect digital signatures, wallet security, and consensus mechanisms from quantum attacks like Shor's algorithm. This shift involves redesigning key generation, transaction signing, and hashing protocols to maintain the integrity, immutability, and trust that make blockchain valuable, while ensuring backward compatibility and smooth migration for existing networks and users.
